The small knot is one of the simplest necktie knots to tie. It is a fluid process which, once mastered, can be tied in 15 seconds. The small knot is useful if: the tie is a bit short for your frame as the knot uses very little material, You are trying to achieve a loose looking knot, or for ties made from thicker materials - like a Rialto Tie. The small knot can work with nearly any type of collar.

Place the necktie around your neck with the broader-end on your dominant hand side. The broader end of the tie, in your dominant hand, must also hang lower down than the narrow-end.

Take the broad end and twist it so that the seam on the back side is facing outward. Go ahead and pass the broad end behind the narrow end of the necktie.

To restate, as seen in the picture to the left, the broader-end is currently in your non-dominant hand and the broader-end is seam-side out.
